An excellent article was posted this week by National Geographic by Molly Loomis. She has a wonderfully balanced, informed and heart felt look at the dynamics at play in the decision on the part of local mountain workers to work on expeditions or not. Of course there's no right or wrong on the part of these families and workers about whether or not to take these jobs that exist, regardless of one's opinion on how or why they exist. Happy to share this nice portrait of Pemba and his family.
"Those expedition earnings often are used for the next generation's education, as Pemba's family did for him. He's benefited from a good education, but the next step is uncertain."
